My wife Noemi and I had a chance to go to this event (http://www.dupageeweek.iit.edu/) on Feb. 20th, 2010. I have been meaning to write about our experience, but other tasks have kept me away. As they say, better late than never.

I learned Spanish 30 years ago. 2008, I finally used my Spanish! I have been keeping it stored in my brain just in case. I don't remember everything but I know enough to be friendly and to ask for help when I am in trouble.

I befriended 3 Hispanic amigos at my job. I let them know if I hear," Ayuada me por favor!" I come running.

I had a handsome Hispanic male co-worker and friend had the cutest giggle. He also had an irresistable smile. He also was a very hard worker, which caught my eye even more. He always gave me the biggest smile, words of encouragement and some flirting. He was my fuel for the night.

Late 2008 and early 2009, I was working with Hispanic workers. I had the best work experiences working with Hispanic co-workers.

Thirty years ago, I learned Spanish in high school. I never had a chance to use Spanish. I also was afraid to even try when the occasion arose. I was so afraid of embarrassing myself.

There was a recent study regarding Hispanic College Graduation rates and how it must become a national priority. While more and more Hispanics are entering college today, the issue is still about getting them through the pipeline and graduating. The study does a great job of providing a fair look at the issues as well as providing some recommendations to improve the situation.
